I want to update to Windows 7 on a 3 year old Gateway laptop… could the hardware handle it?
I REALLY REALLY want Windows 7. This laptop was given to me by my wonderful grandparents and it works fine. There were some fan problems but we are getting it taken care of. Will my wonderful Gateway hardware be able to handle the upgrade to Wondows 7? I’m in a hurry for answers to this because we are about to go out and buy it if it does work.
Yes it should if it meets the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 7;
Processor – 1 GHz processor
Memory (RAM) – 1 GB or 2 GB for 64-bit
Video/Graphics Card – DirectX 9 graphics processor
Hard Drive – 16 GB available (Installation files actually takes about 10 GB)
Optical drive – DVD drive (only to install from DVD/CD Media)
Use the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor just to be sure. It will tell you if your computer can run Windows 7 and which edition.

Kitchen cabinet hardware – style question?
We just bought a house, the kitchen has white cabinets, white back splash, white appliances, the counter tops are dark gray. ALL the light fixtures throughout the house, and also ALL the doorknobs, door stops and towel holders are GOLD. My question is, should I buy golden door handles (hardware for the cabinets) for the kitchen and the bathroom cabinets, or should I break it up and just get something that matches the gray counter tops? Do I stay with the theme (gold throughout the house) or do I go with the (in my mind) out of place counter tops?

I often suggest to clients that they match their kitchen faucet and appliances. You could do two-tone hardware with the faucet/appliance color and gold. Whatever you choose, buy a couple of extra pieces of each knob and/or pull. Murphy’s Law says one will break just before a major social event at your home or the day after you put your house on the market! (And… The manufacturer will have discontinued the style or finish the day before that.)
