I want pale hardwood laths or slender timber for carving, any ideas please for suppliers please.

1) Around here there are places that recycle building supplies. One of them, named Recycle, is an offshoot of Habitat for Humanity. They are a good source of wood of many different kinds. Of course the wood has been used for something but solid wood doors and wood window screens and screen doors yield great whittling/carving wood.
2) Same idea but contacting companies that do building demolition work. Many of them allow pre-demolition salvage work.
3) Are there any sawmills outside London? I’ve bought sculpture wood direct from the mill. It’s lots cheaper.
The only other options I know of are lumber yards, hardware stores, hobby shops and do-it-yourself centers but I’m sure you’ve already thought of them. The hobby shops around here sell beech and fir in very thin sizes, from 1/8″ (3.18mm) to 1/4″ (6.35mm), but it’s not cheap.
